This was reported by the Telegram channel “No to Extremism!” and posted a photo of Gennady. Ukrainian Gennady Lymeshko, convicted in 2017 on a fabricated “sabotage case” in the occupied Crimea, was supposed to be released in February 2025 after serving an 8-year sentence. But instead of release, new criminal proceedings. On July 30, 2025, the Kursk District Court of the Stavropol Territory sentenced him to a new sentence of 2 years in a strict regime colony on charges of “public calls for extremism” on the Internet (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). It is not reported what exactly Lymeshko was accused of. Back in March 2025, he was transferred to the Center for Temporary Detention of Foreigners. Since then, his family has lost contact with him. And in July, his name appeared in the register of Rosfinmonitoring as a “person involved in extremism or terrorism.” In 2017, he was detained in the occupied Crimea. Russian special services said that he was allegedly preparing to blow up power lines, start forest fires, and “fall off cliffs.” After that, a video appeared with Limeshko’s “confession” — probably under pressure. In 2018, the Sudak City Court sentenced him to 8 years in a colony. We call on the Ukrainian authorities, international structures, and human rights organizations to respond to the continued illegal detention of a Ukrainian citizen. Such “repeat cases” are another tool for keeping Kremlin prisoners behind bars after their terms have expired.
