"The IAEA is practically the only institution with access to the occupied Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. We need to work with them" — Igor Kotelianets on Fakty ICTV

In the Fakty ICTV studio, Igor Kotelianets spoke about international advocacy for the release of civilian energy workers who worked at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) and are now held in unlawful detention.

The discussion focused on the fact that more than 20,000 civilians are currently held in unlawful detention. To bring back such a large number of people, different mechanisms have to be explored. One of them is to single out specific professional groups whose release can be demanded from international organisations. The civilian workers of the ZNPP have become exactly such a group.

Igor Kotelianets explained why the Association is working in this direction in particular. Traditional human rights forums are not delivering the result required, which makes it important to engage the IAEA as the most influential international organisation in the field of nuclear safety. This also includes the need to grant international missions access to the unlawfully detained energy workers.

The broadcast also mentioned the petition addressed to Rafael Grossi calling on him to help free the workers of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.
